Ayushi Podder Biography

When shooters take the rifle and aim it and aim, all that matters is their goal. All else is a blur. The thought of winning lots in their minds, the instinct will be the trigger. The question of whether their time of waking upearly, putting in more hours to training and giving up your favourite food were worth it is decided right now. It is at this point that 19-year-old Ayushi Podder is training for!

Each time Ayushi shoots, her goal is greater than the "Bullseye" shot. She is aiming at the Podium Finish! Each time she puts her trigger, she fires the bullet toward her goal of winning an Olympic medal that hangs on her neck, with the tricolored flag fluttering over her.

Aayushi is an aspiring junior rifle shooter and the most recent young sensation in shooting from India to make waves in the sport , following Manu Bhaker and Gayathri nityanadam, Mehuli Ghosh and others. Born on the 23rd day of October in 1999, Aayushi is from Sheoraphuli, Hooghly of West Bengal.

Aayushi's enthusiasm and skill in shooting comes through her father Pankaj Podder, who himself is an former Indian shooter as well as an International Shooting Sport Federation ( ISSF) licensed and qualified coach.

Schooling Days And Sacrificed Dreams

Aayushi was totally devoted to studying during her time during her time at Techno Indian Public School. Unexpectedly, even though she was exposed to sports at a young age, she displayed almost any passion for shooting.

At the age of seven, Aayushi was seven years old, she completed a portfolio with the intention of becoming an actress or model. Aayushi also attended dance classes at a Classical Odisha style and participated in various school activities.

In the latter part of her life, Pankaj used to travel across states to play in matches. Aayushi was not aware that she'd one day follow in his steps. As a scholar who excelled in school, Aayushi wished to study MBBS as she grew older.

Start of Shooting Career

Things changed quickly when her father asked her to try shooting. Pankaj confessed to his dream of watching his daughter follow in his steps. "When my child was barely five year old, I had the idea I could make her the next shooter Olympic gold medalist" Pankaj explains.

She began training for the sake of her father. In just seven days of acquiring her air gun Ayushi had already been a champion at the state level!

"It is my very first time competing which was also my first time being a winner!" she says, her excitement clearly heard in her voice. Her first major victory prompted Junior Podder to take up shooting.

With her father's strong support that was a guarantee, she could not look back. As time passed by, Aayushi immersed herself into the sport and discovered an exciting new sport to shed blood for. With her determination and drive in shooting her school's principal and teachers also began to show their support as she embarked on her next adventure.

To excel in the field of shooting the ball, a player must have maximum concentration. For Ayushi the concentration and focus came easily. This is the reason she could achieve excellent marks. "I'm proficient in academics. Focus and concentration are crucial and these two qualities assisted me shooting significantly."

Ayushi also realized the value of perfection in her career and in her daily life. In the beginning of her working out, the father of her advised her "Ayushi is the only one who can take a perfect sight image". These words have helped her tremendously on the international stage. They've been embedded in her brain. "Perfection is important," she tells.

After becoming the state champion, Ayushi won the pre-national championship in junior-senior youth the next month. Within an entire calendar year Aayushi has secured her spot to participate at the Indian team camp. She was soon a part of the Asian air gun team, and within a year, she won her first gold medal in international competition at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2016, Suhl, Germany.

Indian athletes face challenges Indian athletes

The life of an athlete India isn't as simple. It's true that Ayushi isn't an exception. She has a lot of forgotten stories to tell about her travels to various places to compete in tournaments. One of them happened on she returned from Asian Junior Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Ayushi as well as her teammates arrived at 5 am at New Delhi from a long and exhausting journey. This is when she finds out that she is scheduled for an 11 AM slot for competing in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the All India Inter-University Championship. With a lack of sleep and hunger the young shooter took part in the competition and was able to take home the bronze medal.

When she mentioned the event, Ayushi opened up about the incident without regret. She doesn't blame her fatigue or sleep deprivation for her loss. Also, she does not blame ineffective planning of the organizers.

This morning, Aayushi laughs it off. This is an additional addition to the lengthy list of organizational and structural issues athletes have experienced and continue to face in the sport's ecosystem in India.

At the time of the World Championship in Changwon, Korea, Ayushi had to endure a gap of eight days between her arrival until match day. She was unable to train for the entire eight days due to the scheduling of other games. Additionally, her rifle was not in good condition. It was a terrible experience at the event.

And to make matters even more difficult Ayushi's father as well as her coach were unable to join her on a trip because of budgetary problems. This is a common issue facing athletes in India in the present. The athletes are in financial straits to purchase equipment, travel for training, eat an adequate diet, and so many more.

Balance between education and shooting

While juggling academics, shooting lessons and globe-trotting to attend events, her grade at school did not drop. After graduating from high school she decided to take an education in Humanities and was able to take time to devote her time to studying and shooting.

Presently, Ayushi Podder is pursuing her undergrad degree in Public Administration at Punjab University at the same as training and participating in competitions. But, Ayushi believes that it could not have been achieved without the help of her school and the management.

Ayushi has no attendance bar because of her inclusion in the Sports Quota. She can practice all the time and only attends to write tests. If competitions or selections conflict with her examinations The college schedules specific dates for her to sit the test.

A moment in the daily life Ayushi Podder

As her father did, Ayushi travels a lot. Through each year Ayushi takes part in at least ten national competitions. In addition, there are trials for selection and two or three competitions internationally the course of a year. In addition to her travels for different events, she frequently goes to Delhi to train in Dr Karni Shooting range. Dr Karni Shooting range, because it's the only place that she can train at for the 50-meter categories.

Ayushi must also travel to Chandigarh for university every day. Between her travels for college, training and competitions her schedule is so busy that she's hardly able to stay in her house.

A typical day for the youthful shooter in West Bengal begins at 5.30 am. She rises, gets fresh up and then has a quick warming-up. At 7.30 am, Aayushi is on the breakfast table. After breakfast, she departs for her training.
